Creating the right conditions for positive workplace moments

It's that time of year again – 2024 is just around the corner!

The hustle and bustle of finishing up projects and other tasks is in full swing.

Many are likely wrapping up their performance review plans, trying their best to capture everything completed, individually and as part of a team. You worked extremely hard for the most part, accomplished several things you intended to do, took on extra projects and slipped a bit on others.

But that's okay. These days agility and flexibility are needed as plans and projects change regularly.

It’s important to check in and celebrate what you’ve achieved.

For people managers, are you ensuring your employees feel heard, seen, valued, and appreciated?

Are you using multiple employee strategies based on the level of engagement instead of a ‘one size fits all’ approach?

Are you doing your part to deliver on your company contract, or better referred to as your employee value proposition?

Now is a good time to have heartfelt conversations with your team and give praise and encouragement wherever and whenever possible.

"The leader is the person who brings a little magic to the moment."

– Denise Morrison (President & CEO, Campbell Soup)

Make someone's day by being compassionate and focus on positive outcomes instead of minor shortfalls.

Showing how employee performance is helping to effect change in your business or organization will have an impact on how your team will show up every day. They will also step up to face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead when they see that impact.

It may also be time to tweak your mission and values so they are better in tune with employee sentiment and future work plans.

Why not have a bit of fun and get a head start on those goals? It could be as simple as choosing one word that will be your focal point and driver of success or how you want to feel all year.

"If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy, and inspires your hopes."

– Andrew Carnegie (Entrepreneur)

For those who are fortunate enough to be taking a break over the holiday season, relax and take care of yourself and your loved ones.  Start the year off right – rejuvenated and ready to achieve those personal and professional aspirations.

`Tis the season for giving. So why not consider volunteering at a food bank, donating to a toy drive for children, making a financial contribution to a charity of choice, or registering for a mentorship program?

Just remember to be kind to yourself and others as we all have our struggles and we may not always know that people may be hurting.

Lead with your heart and do what you can to bring some encouragement and positivity into the workplace, the community and the world.
